Are you sure? There are reasons to believe the head coach would want to play guys that would be around next year. The head coach may also not take kindly to guys he doesn't know and has no relationship with throwing his program under the bus (by their actions) and then later saying they didn't mean it. I  wouldn't take it as a given that all would be forgiven because we need the bodies. If a statement needs to be made, here would be the golden opportunity.

Taylor in his presser: "I told everyone in the portal that they're all welcome to come back"

He told the players in the portal that they're welcome to come back, or that he wants them to come back?

Why not take Taylor at face value, especially given the way he delivered the message? It's clear from the videos that he wanted them back.  

And it's rational. We will struggle to field a team of competent scholarship players at multiple position groups in 2023. The young guys are going to get plenty of reps, no matter how many outbound transfers come back (and it's not looking like many.) 

I think Taylor correctly assessed that he should try to re-recruit these guys back into the program because he might pick up better players than through the inbound transfer process, which remains completely unproven at Stanford. It's probably not working out, but it was a smart move.

Clearly, many of our transfers are good enough for other decent programs to want them, and some have multiple years of eligibility remaining. Two of our starting OL's are joining the #2 ranked team in the country.
