My thoughts on American is that it would be cool if it really did mean a more all-encompassing label for people from the continent(s) called America. I don't think wishing so makes me anti-American, either. But I'm also not hopeful that my preference will ever catch on. Language is a funny thing. It follows trends and changes. But I'm aware that I'm left hoping that a trickle will somehow turn away a tsunami.
