Anyway, just think you guys are projecting in thinking he should go elsewhere. He's a lifer and when somebody tells him his Stanford life is over he'll cross that bridge when he needs to, but I don't think it's realistic/understanding of his mentality to think he'll take a shortcut to that bridge. Why leave his bliss if he doesn't have to?

You describe what you think he will do, namely stay and accept whatever happens. You may very well be correct. However, he is 35 years old and being "kicked to the curb" may not be too attractive at that age. I don't claim to "understand his mentality". I don't know the man. My belief that he should go somewhere else and "polish his resume" is based on the obvious fact he may need to get a job elsewhere "soon" (almost needed to this year), and it is better to be proactive, and attempt to control your own destiny. He may be perfectly happy being a QB coach at Stanford forever. However, there are good reasons to believe that is not an option. Given that, my suggestion remains the same.

I’m not sure what you mean; he’s already been announced as the QB coach, so clearly it *is* an option, and I would get why he would take it.  But he *should* go forth and apprentice somewhere else, in a different system, a different school, etc.  Shaw’s path, where he apprenticed in the NFL and at a lower division school (USD) before coming to Stanford with Harbaugh, is maybe not a bad one to emulate.
