What exactly does analyst mean? I assume it doesn’t count against coaching limits but I would also assume that means he can’t be involved in practices, game day, or recruiting?

teams can have an unlimited number of analysts.  Analysts are not allowed to recruit and not allowed to do direct on-field coaching of players, but can do things like provide instruction and watch film off-field with players.  In many ways they seem to extra eyes and brain cycles that extend the reach and effective hours of the rest of the coaching staff.  For example, some can start game planning for future opponents weeks earlier than the regular staff could.
