Singer's sentence handed down today. Three and a half years in prison, $10.6 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. Rick Singer had pled guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering, conspiracy to commit money laundering, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Prosecutors wanted six years. Singer's lawyers wanted a year of home confinement or at most six months behind bars.
Singer's cooperation led to the convictions of more than 50 coaches, parents and associates. Their sentences ranged from probation to 30 months in prison. Most prosecutors, in those cases, elected not to call him to testify, given his questionable credibility.
