11 students transferred out of Stanford last year.  While every year a number of freshmen don't like their rooms and/or roommates (I didn't love my one room double that had been converted from a single, and I didn't exactly love my roommate), very few students transfer out because of it.

My guess is that family issues, being home sick, or personal entanglements are the main cause. I'm pretty sure you can force a room change, at least back in the day.
