One of the unpleasant things about NIL is that it may be a distraction for the players. Rather than just concentrate on athletics & school & social life, these athletes now have another thing to deal with & stress about: money/investments & agents & obligations & maybe travel.
People on this board are suggesting that Stanford WBB players are tired. I wouldn't think they should be. They're not in a crunch time for academics. Their game schedule is back to normal after a very heavy autumn. They probably play less time than starters for almost any other school. (I will say they do play hard when they play. And practices are probably strenuous.)
I have to believe the coaches try to emphasize to the players about sleep time, but that doesn't mean the players actually sleep.
As a fan, I am at least suspicious that the weight of NIL is impacting the play. I don't particularly like that thought, but it is there.
"Wow, look, my stocks did well, so I am up $50K over yesterday.
I heard about something neat in class today, so I need to tell my broker to invest in it.
I didn't read what the prospectus for what she said I should think about.
That reminds me, I forgot to read through the liability insurance contract and I've promised to sign it tomorrow." etc.
