A nice favor for Taylor to do for Esquer. This is a legitimate baseball prospect and not a legitimate football prospect. Among historical Stanford recruits, the comparison that comes to mind is Tyrone McGraw. A good high school running back with good speed but not in a way good enough to get any major programs to be interested, and impeccable Stanford Man credentials. The difference is the bona fide baseball chops and while I don't think Hampton is quite the two sport prospect Brock Jones was, Hampton seems like a useful outfielder. It's a sign of how far Stanford's running back room has fallen that we can justify a scholarship here (assuming he's a scholarship recruit, and if he ever plays in football he will automatically count as a football scholarship due to the two-sport recruitment). At the same time, there's no real downside for Taylor. Do a favor for Esquer, get a guy with a good build and on paper foot speed, and get some depth at one of the very weakest positions in our pipeline. An optimist could also argue that Taylor and Agnew know what they want/need at RB and may have a vision for how this could be a useful piece. The pessimist might argue that Taylor and Agnew are suffering from FCS goggles and don't yet know the talent they'll need at the Pac-12 level. As a general matter, RB is an important position for Taylor offenses and our pipeline looks badly under siege if we don't get LJ Martin back in the fold. Martin is a key recruitment to watch, but realistically the fact we brought Hampton in is likely insurance against an anticipated loss of Martin.
