A few thoughts on the Fullerton series as I wait for the Cal game to start. 

Pitching 
Its standard lore that pitchers are ahead of the batters at the beginning of the season, but that certainly was not the case for Stanford this first weekend. 
Ouch - 26 runs in 3 games; 8.0 team ERA; 2.07 team WHIP, 8 walks per game. 
Mostly no one pitched very well, but ... 
The Old - 5th year who had pitched a total of 12 innings before this year, pitched 1.2 perfect innings striking out 4 of the 5 batters he faced. 
The New - Matt Scott, frosh from CT, pitched 2.0 innings on Saturday allowing zero runs and getting the win. No hits but he did walk 3. 
It's not much of a sample for either, but I like to see guys who stick around eventually succeed, and the young guy represents hope for the future. 

Offense. 
Pretty good, but an awful lot of the positive statistics were from the 27th and 28th innings of the weekend. 
8 home runs in three games, but 5 different players. 
Braden Montgomery (So) is supposed to be our star - he hit .455 AVG, 1.534 OPS, HR, 2 Doubles. Check. 
Malcolm Moore (Fr) started his career with first at bat HR. Added 2 more on Sunday. .333 AVG, 1.308 OPS.

Two nice stories:
Owen Cobb (Sr) is a story I really like so far. He has begun each of the past three seasons as a starting middle infielder but lost the job each year due to lack of offense. Already, he has his most hits in a season with 5. Batted .385 AVG, 1.406 OPS, hit the triple that brought in the winning run in the 10th on Sunday. And he made a game saving and ending catch on Saturday. 
Alberto Rios (Jr) catcher has barely played so far, and I had more or less forgotten about him behind So Charlie Saum and Fr Malcolm Moore. He had more at bats this weekend than previously in his career and hit .444 AVG, 1.056 OPS. First four hits of his career. 

BUT, Carter Graham was 2 for 13, and had been 0 for 8 before starting game 3 with a HR. 
Eddie Park only hit .200, on Sunday had a 15 game hit streak broken. 


Miscellaneous
Was surprised to see Bowser at second with Troy at third. Expected the opposite. 
We haven't seen Tommy O-Rourke on the mound yet. He's had 55 appearances over the past two years. Injured?

IIRC O’Rourke was up in the bullpen Sunday.

How can Stanford hold its own in Baseball with 7/10 of the Top 10 being from the SEC, and walk around with pants around their ankles in MBB and Football?

I think you mean Nine’s right hand man, Dean Stotz, doing color with Roxy Bernstein. 

He said Troy had Steve Sax-like yips at 2B but was fine at 3B. 

Boy do we need these young arms to settle down! Now 8-2 Weenies.

Of course. My bad.

I know little about baseball, but find it hard to understand that if you are supposed to be a decent college level pitcher, how much better can you expect to get after the season starts?  Aren't you expected to be a pretty decent pitcher when you get to this level, meaning you can at least find the plate and not throw it in the dirt or hit the batter?  Maybe you don't quite have the speed or movement on your pitches yet, but have to be at least close.
