What he said is a truism. The question is whether the current Wild West incarnation of NIL as a way of "recruiting and retaining players" is compatible with the values of an elite educational institution. I haven't given up hope that after a few years there will be a way to sort out the good (allowing student athletes to retain and profit from their NIL) while reining in the bad (using NIL as a façade that allows pay-to-play inducements and makes a mockery of any remote idea that collegiate athletics is anything but a poor faccimile of professional athletics loosely affiliated with an ostensibly educational institution).
But if we follow the direction of travel to its logical conclusion, I'm out.
