There's an interesting article about this here if you're interested. Basically arguing that the "Idaho Stop" should be legal. The article cites that in Boise, where it's the law for bikes to treat stop signs as yield signs, they have fewer bike-related accidents than in similar California cities.

The California legislature passed a similar law in 2021, but unfortunately (in my view) Gavin Newsome saw fit to veto it.  The Idaho law was passed in 1982. Since 2017, at least 8 other states have passed similar laws.  The California law was to be valid for a limited period (I think until 1928) at which time it would have been extended or rescinded.
