I'm wondering how the women's basketball team received this news and how the players felt about it. I'm wondering if Tara advocated for her team members to receive the same or decided to not pursue it. There's been so much speculation over Lauren Betts and other players entering the portal - how could this not have been a big factor? 50 years of Title IX at Stanford - ugh.
I'm empathetic to the concerns of gender equity here. However, if these NIL collectives are operating outside the control of the university, I don't see any way to mandate equal payments to the women's team. I would assume some MBB players could get more than others, just like some of the FB players are getting more. That said, if a benefactor felt that the departure of Betts and others was due to insufficient NIL payments and wanted to change that, they could easily justify making higher NIL payments to the WBB then MBB.
