Stanford suffers a very disappointing run rule loss to lose the game and series to the Huskies.

This could end up being a pretty large blow to the top 8 national seed hopes to lose a home series like this. It is frustrating, because with just a little more hitting yesterday, this series and top 8 seed would have been locked up given the sweep loss Texas just suffered to Baylor, Georgia losing a series to LSU and Arkansas dropping a series to lowly Missouri (also throw in Oklahoma State getting swept at home by Oklahoma).

Stanford definitely has work to do in the Pac tourney, starting with a #4-#5 matchup with Oregon. Win that, and top-ranked UCLA awaits (or one of the Arizona schools, presuming either pulls off a historic upset of the Bruins lol).

This could also possibly elevate the Huskies to a top 8 seed.

I don't want to place too much emphasis on one game, but this game and this series was about as high leverage as it gets re Pac and tourney seeding, and UW just thoroughly deserved the series win.

I was surprised to see how much better a hitting team is than we are.  They hit our best pitcher in both games.  We didn't hit well at all.

Effectively, they basically wore down our pitching and saw enough pitches to learn our tendencies in the circle. We didn't get enough hits, and didn't learn enough at-bat to at-bat to adjust to their pitchers.

That is perhaps surprising for a Stanford team, because all of this goes back to pre-game scouting and film study, and in-game learning, which should and I believe is a strength of our team, given the caliber of both athletic and overall intelligence on our team.

We have a very tough road to hoe in the tournament.  If we beat Oregon, we probably get UCLA and if we beat them, probably Washington.  For what little my opinion is worth, it seems to me our biggest weakness as a team is our hitting. We are a small ball team that has lived off our speed.  We do not really have any power hitters.  Look at the season homerun figures for UCLA, Washington and Oregon.  The totals are 60, 57 and 58.  We have 19.  Utah with 37 has twice as many as we do.  How many bunt singles do we have?  Our best pitcher got hit by Washington in both games, although we managed to win the first.
I hope we have some power coming in next year.  The bunt single gets a runner on, but you need better hitting to turn that single into a run.  While it is a much different game in many ways, look at the baseball team.  They overcome what is often so so pitching with a bunch of guys who can turn a bunt single into 2 runs. The long ball can be very demoralizing and we need more of them.
