A lot of focus on Rose Zhang and deservedly so. But I want to give a shout out to Sadie Englemann and Kelly Xu.
Sadie had her career low for both 18 holes and 54 holes and finished second to Rose ahead of a LOT of very good players. I've spent a little time with her over her Stanford career and befriended her father a bit. She has really matured at Stanford and it showed this year as the team really needed her to step up with Heck and Seay sidelined for the entire spring season.
I haven't yet met Kelly Xu but to play like this as a freshman is awesome and I think how she plays will go a LONG way to determining whether Stanford repeats as national champions. It's really hard to win with only three strong players - Zhang, Englemann, and Ganne.
Looking ahead to nationals, I wonder whether Angelina Ye will be in the 5th spot at Greyhawk but I'm not sure Coach Walker has a lot of options at this point. Maybe Caroline Sturdza but if she had been playing well this spring we would have seen her play in more tournaments.
We should still be the strong favorites to win the title, but match play is TOUGH. Last year we won 3-2 in all three rounds of match play.
