The players (and fans) should be prepared for some loooooong days of golf. The women's NCAA tournament expands this year to 30 teams. With a difficult course set up and a full field of 150 golfers, rounds could take a while.

Fortunately, Stanford will be in the first groups off each day in their wave. They will lead the afternoon wave tomorrow starting at 11:30 off the 10th tee. Forecast tomorrow is for temperatures to top out around 90 with some cloud cover. Things heat up after that with daytime highs from 95 to 100 the rest of the week.

Stanford turns around quickly to play in the first groups of the day on Saturday at 6:10 am. At least they will be done before the heat of the day.

As a reminder, the format is 72 holes of stroke play, followed by the top 8 teams playing head-to-head match play. There will be a cut after 54 holes with only the lowest 15 teams playing the final round. The mindset for stroke play has to be that you are playing against the golf course and against yourself. Be aggressive selectively. Par is going to be a good score. Have a short memory after a bad hole or a bad shot.

Stanford led the field last year with a 4 round total of +9. The 8th place team was at +30. 2 years ago on the same golf course, Stanford also led the field with a 4 round total of -10. The 8th place team was at +21.

Stanford is a young team with 2 frosh, 1 soph and 2 juniors. But Zhang (1st in 2022), Heck (1st in 2021, 31st in 2022) and Englemann (49th in 2021, 27th in 2022) have prior NCAA experience at Grayhawk. So does Seay (20th in 2021, 40th in 2022). That should help with course strategy and reading the greens. They will be great teachers and mentors for Xu and Ganne.
