Assuming the weather is dry and there are no particular differences in wind speed between the cooler and hotter parts of the day, do good golfers tend to score better or worse in warmer (90s) vs cooler (80s) weather, and in the afternoon (when the fairway and greens dry out)?  Players may be more comfortable in the earlier part of the day, but that's not what goes up on the scoreboard.

In general I think you favor playing early. The greens are untrodden. The temperature doesn't beat you down. And perhaps most importantly the wind is calmer. In the desert (as in other places), the wind picks up in the afternoon. The wind plus the heat dries out the greens and makes them firmer.
