The Mighty Quinn could have hurt his arm by thumbing his nose at MLB's evaluation of him last year...
Despite keeping up his speed in the 8th, it seemed pretty clear he was losing control, mostly up. Inspirationally, it was right to leave him in the game. But if they'd had a sure reliever, I think it would have probably been the wrong thing. But, after the previous day's meltdown, I can see why he had to finish it.
On TV, they pointed out an instance last year where the decision whether to pitch on short rest was put to Quinn AND his parents. Then with the talk about an adult conversation or lack thereof on the mound, I think it is clear that the coaches are trying to teach the pitchers to know their limitations and be honest as possible. In the interview, Quinn knew that was his last batter. I'm just glad that batter was the last out.
I really hope his performance leads to inspired pitching today. As great as that was for a last performance by Quinn at Klein, I hope it wasn't his last game for Stanford.
