Tommy John is not in the HOF, but there's a good case for including him. If Jim Kaat is in the Hall, why not Tommy John?

Of course, it may not a good idea to pick one of the weakest HOF members and set that as the bar. That arguably could open the doors too much...

Tommy John is the #53 ranked pitcher by career WAR. There's 43 pitchers in the HoF with worse WAR than Tommy John (not including former pitchers who were inducted for being a great umpire or manager). 41 of the 48 HoF-eligible pitchers (not including Kershaw, Scherzer, Verlander or Greinke) in front of him are in the HoF. The seven not in include Roger Clemens (#3 overall), Curt Schilling (#26), Jim McCormick (#29, only played 10 seasons, only five were great), Kevin Brown (#36), Rick Reuschel (#37), Luis Tiant (#44) and Bobby Matthews (#52, most of his career was in Amer Assn or National Association).

In between Kaat and TJ  are Marichal, McGinnity, Drysdale, Waddell, Bunning, Newhouser, Koufax, Rixey, Brown, Rivera, Ruffing, Hoyt, Ford, Wynn, Wilhelm, Paige. After Kaat are Pennock, Dizzy Dean, Jack Morris, Lefty Gomez, Charles Bender, Gossage, Lemon, Catfish Hunter, Marquard and a bunch of relievers.

One of the biggest injustices is Schilling.  Yes, he’s a jerk  But he’s is largely out due to his political statements. Won’t discuss those  - other than to say I disagree completely with him. Don’t condone his comments.   But that should not be a consideration in voting.  He is not tied to steroids a la Clemens. 

Schilling was a dominant pitcher in his day.  He should be in the HOF.
