Jackson Painter scored four goals, Ethan Parrish and Riley Pittman added two apiece and No. 3 Stanford held on for a 9-8 victory over No. 2 California at Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon.

I thought Stanford’s goalie Griffin Price was the star, stopping 10 bone-breaking shots.  Stanford made a number of goals after being fouled outside the 5 meter line.
Stanford got out to a 3-1 lead, then 4-1, but Cal came back to tie. Stanford again built a 3 goal lead.
In the last couple of minutes, it felt to me like the far ref started trying to give Cal a chance.  Despite some mental errors of shooting too early, Stanford held on.

WWP coach Tanner was watching right next to me, when he wasn’t texting. He showed no emotion but he did take a picture of the scoreboard just before the end of the game

Wow. Thanks for the update. Great to see us prevail, and the Bears falter. They were the clear favorite at the beginning of the year, now, who knows.
