John Cazale, who played Fredo in both Godfather 1 and Godfather 2, Stan in Coppola's The Conversation, Sal Naturile in Lumet's masterpiece Dog Day Afternoon and Stanley Stosh in Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter. Godfather 1&2 and Deer Hunter all won the Best Picture Oscar. Dog Day Afternoon lost to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Conversation was the same year as Godfather 2.

Those were Cazale's only five full length movies, all nominated for Best Picture Oscars. He died tragically from lung cancer at age 42 right after The Deer Hunter.
