It will be so shortsighted if Muir doesn't let Haase go and go HARD for the best possible replacement, including at least one member of his staff who who has strong East Coast recruiting ties. MBB is the one sport where I think a strong case can be made that our move from the Pac-12 to the ACC was a net improvement (WBB would be close because minus ascent UCLA and USC and with Ore/OreSU/Zona on the decline, the new Pac-10 would have been a fairly weak conference.). The ACC is a hugely better basketball conference than the moribund Pac-12 has been, and charter travel for basketball games has already been the norm for top programs for years, so the travel costs for MBB are much more minimal. (Honestly, flying commercial to Pullman is way worse than a charter to the research triangle.)

And let's be frank: MBB is the closest thing to a second "revenue" sport, and it's definitely the second most "prestigious" after football. We've historically recruited well, don't need to bend the admissions curves to nab 2-3 top recruits a recruiting cycle, and have a proven history of selling out Maples when our men's teams have been good. Literally the only missing piece has been a great coach, after three straight cycles of mediocre duds.

It's maddening to me because whereas being a top football program *should* have been a much harder push even in the pre-NIL/annual-transferpalooza era, we nonetheless were a top program for essentially a decade. We have so many more natural advantages, and fewer disadvantages, in the potential to be a top MBB program, and I'm just frankly appalled our AD has let it wither on the vine to the point where a big BB fan like myself stopped caring years ago out of genuine apathy and (confident) certainty our program is going nowhere.
