I'd go for Tommy Lloyd

Interesting. Given his longstanding PNW ties, Lloyd wouldn't be West Coast averse (which is my concern with the pie-in-the-sky prospect of hiring Jay Wright, who has long been my favorite college coach of the modern era, and whom I think would fit really well on the Farm. Bennett, my second favorite, at least coached for six years at WSU.)

But man, that going from Zona to Stanford would definitely be a apples-to-oranges switch for Lloyd, because U of A has an entirely different recruiting profile, fan base, and (post Big 12 move) conference dynamic. That said, given that U of A is in dire financial straights, I seriously doubt they could match us if we put serious $ behind an offer.

U of A is instigating some major belt-tightening. I'll comment on it in another thread.

If we can lure him away from Viejas, I would approach San Diego State's Brian Dutcher.  SDSU has a record of 151-46 while coached by him.  We would immediately become a premier West Coast basketball program.  Aztecs beat Gonzaga on the road last night.

I don't know that Dutcher's background indicates recruiting for academic schools, unless you include his time as assistant at Michigan when they had the brobdingnagian scandal.

I suggest 47 year old Mitch Henderson, coach of 12-1 Princeton Tigers. Might be like Coach Montgomery.

Played for Bill Carmody at Princeton in the late 1990s. Led Princeton to Sweet 16 in 2022/23, just the fourth 15 seed to do so. Beat #8 Arizona and #23 Missouri along the way. Beat Missouri by 15, largest victory margin by a 15 seed in NCAA tourney history. They then lost to Creighton by 11, who lost to SDSU by 1, which team was in the NCAA final.

Princeton won Ivy championship in 2021 and 2022, beat South Carolina and Oregon State. Nearly upset 14th ranked Notre Dame in 2017 NCAA tourney. Finalist for Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award. Was an assistant for 11 seasons under Bill Carmody at Northwestern. His #2, Kevin McConnell has won "30 under 30" awards. He runs ops and recruiting for the Princeton program and has recruited 4 star players to Princeton. Imagine what they could do at Stanford.
