And I am a prophet! Stanford wins 4-1!
1. Blake trailed 5-7, 4-0
2. Ma won 6-0, 6-3
3. Yepifanova won 6-4, 6-4
4. Blokhina won 6-1, 6-3
5. Hui won 6-4, 6-2
6. Xu trailed 5-7, 2-2
Blokhina was first, then Ma, then Hui, and Yepifanova came back to clinch.
Positives:
* Ma and Blokhina established control early and when their second sets tightened up, they turned on the jets. Can't ask for much more.
* Hui was a little slower to take control, but once she did, she didn't let go. Great work by her.
* Yepifanova struggled throughout, but found the key points when she needed them. Good fight when her form still isn't at her best.
Negatives:
* Letdown in doubles with ASU's best player out of the lineup. Come on, we have to be better and take advantage. This "drop the doubles and storm back in singles" storyline is so played out at this point. How about we just do better in doubles for once?
* Blake should've done better, but the way her second set was going, she might well have been on the way to a three-set win with dominant wins in the second and third sets. And if that's the case, I would've been reasonably pleased, so I'll call her grade an incomplete.
* But Xu has to stop being a weak point at 6. She's not consistent enough. I'm tired of it. If she's not going to be a dominant force a la Sara Choy at 6, then step aside and let Eleana Yu take a turn. With a team as deep as ours, we ought to be absolutely crushing people on Court 6. That we're not doing that--and worse, that we're losing that line sometimes--means something needs to change.
