He's past 50, so it's not so improbable that he lost an inch of height. Or maybe he was 6'3" to start, and now he's 6'2", and he's always been lying by an inch. If he did lose height though, that doesn't imply any loss of mass because it just happens due to compression of the spine. Getting old is not for the faint of heart...
Man, no kidding. I topped out at 6'1 5/8" and at age 61, I have lost 1.5". My kids now tower over me.
