I was thinking in terms of the combined team, best in history, for a franchise. So the Yankees might look like this:
C Berra, 358
1B Gehrig, 491
2B Lazzeri, 169
SS Jeter, 260
3B A-Rod, 351
LF Ruth, 714*
CF DiMaggio, 351
RF Mantle, 536
P Pettite, 60.9 WAR
* Yes, I know Ruth is traditionally thought of as a right fielder, but he played almost as many games in LF (1,128 to 1,047)
I would argue that the Giants' all-time time is superior to the Yankees all time team, for sure in terms of HRs (3,892 to 2,516), and I'd rather have Mathewson pitching over any Yankee.
