This is the last year for a covid year for a spring sports.  Fall and winter sports get another covid year
I can’t find the answer but maybe given tennis is year round they have a covid year and maybe a Sr will be back

Plus, no way Houghton or Geller would factor into Yu's decision--she's ahead of them already and is only likely to expand on that.

The timing of Yu entering the portal is so interesting. Why not wait until the season is over? Wasn’t Yu the higher recruit over Hui? I wondered what really happened. I’m with you ColoradoTree. I would have put Yu at 6 over Xu. 

Maybe she’s homesick? Maybe Ohio state offered her a nice NIL package. 

Is Akasha Urhobo bypassing college and turning professional?

Yeah, Urhobo already turned pro back in 2022, so no chance at her. 

And Yu was just slightly better than Hui as a recruit, yeah. But it was close, and as 2006alum noted, her game seemed to tail off her senior year and that summer, while Hui was kicking it up a notch. That made it a toss-up to me as to where they'd play in the lineup when they got here, whereas I would've penciled Yu in above Hui when they signed.

Yu finally took off the Stanford Women's Tennis IG handle on her IG profile... so I guess there is no coming back. 

Could this be the end of Stanford being able to stack blue chip recruits? I wonder what went wrong between Yu and Forood. I wonder if Yu is consistently beating Xu in practice and got frustrated that she was continuosly being benched? Or maybe it was something specific Yu wasn't doing that Forood didn't like? Who knows... but man, what a bummer. I was looking forward to Yu having a spectacular sophomore year.

Nah, I don't think this is the end of Stanford stacking blue chips. We'll always be able to do that, I think. We're just too desirable a landing spot. With the massive caveat that I have no idea what actually happened between Yu and Forood, and I'd love to get that scuttlebutt, my assumption is that this is a lot more about Yu than Stanford or Forood. 

My suspicion is what 2006alum said--Yu believed that she should have been playing in the lineup (and I bet she wouldn't have been happy at 6, either), and Lele was making decisions based on how players looked in practice and recent form, and for various reasons, she felt Xu earned the spot more than Yu did. But Lele has dealt with strong personalities and frustrated players before, so obviously something was different here. 

I mean, ultimately, if someone has the opportunity to go to Stanford--and especially play tennis here--and they decide to go to, say, Ohio State instead, if Yu decides to go closer to home, then they never belonged here in the first place. 

The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, and we don't know our recruiting class until they sign, so who knows who will be in the class following Glozman. But if we don't bring in an undergraduate transfer that changes the calculus, I really do think folks who are committed elsewhere will be giving us a second look due to the greater likelihood of cracking the lineup, especially folks like Ekstrand and Wang who committed to Ivies. We usually get our commits late due to admissions, so Glozman didn't commit until after she was accepted last fall.
