I just saw this update on Twitter. Stanford up over 200 points
Yes, but….
In theory, Texas could gain close to 500 points while Stanford could gain only about 150. Say Stanford wins 2 of the 5. Stanford gets 2x100 but loses 2x50 (based on previous year’s typical scoring; I’m not bothering to score since it is so stupid)
Yes, this is the biggest challenge for Stanford since there is a cap on the number of counting sports. Stanford-Texas will likely finish 1-2 in women's rowing and although it's only a 10 point difference in points earnings, Texas will cut into our lead by a fair amount since we'd be replacing another sport while Texas will likely be adding all those points to the total. Same is true for softball where we'll earn no less than 27 DC points than Texas (max 100 vs guaranteed 73 points). The biggest UT advantage is going to be in baseball, and M/W track where we will earn 0 or very few points and every Texas point goes directly against our lead. If UT is going to pass us, it'll need to earn ~200 points from these 3 sports.
