Watching the play again, https://x.com/TexasSoftball/status/1797792576738906500, I think Gall takes the position she did so she does not risk getting called for obstruction. That said, better to get the out and make the umps overturn it on replay. I hate the rule though. How is the catcher/player covering the plate supposed to position themselves?!?! There were cases where the throw beat the runner by a mile but was still called safe due to obstruction.
