2/3 (182/273) of all the players who have been elected to the Hall of Fame played at Rickwood Field at some point in their careers.  

The history of that park is truly amazing.

That was an extraordinary venue, such history and an interesting game to watch. I love baseball history, so it was really cool for me.

Bob was right. Second All Star game in the current series was 1934. 28 future Hall of Famers were on the rosters of the two teams, 13 for the Americans, 15 for the Nationals. Every starter on both teams was a future Hall of Famer save for Wally Berger. That was the game that Hubbell struck out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons and Cronin consecutively.

Long before the current All-Star series, a popular 31 year old pitcher for Cleveland named Addie Joss died of tubercular meningitis two days before the start of the 1911 season. Joss was a great pitcher gone too soon. Best WHIP in MLB history. Seven one-hitters, 45 shutouts, 1.89 career ERA. Ty Cobb called Joss the most difficult pitcher for him to face, he hit just .233 career off of Joss. The club decided to host a fundraiser for his wife and two children on the one day that the entire league had off, July 24. They asked each team to contribute a player or two.

Here was the lineup for the All-Star team: Starting pitcher, Smoky Joe Wood; outfielders Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker and Sam Crawford; IF of 1B Hal Chase, 2B Eddie Collins, 3B Home Run Baker, SS Bobby Wallace. All HoF except Wood and Los Gatos HS product Chase, a great player and the finest fielding 1B of his day. Not a great guy, however (see his role in the Black Sox scandal). Walter Johnson was the backup pitcher. Can you imagine? Wood started because he and Speaker had to leave in the third inning to catch the train back to Boston.

Cleveland's starting pitcher was Cy Young. RF was Shoeless Joe Jackson. Nap Lajoie managed and played 1B. The game raised nearly $13k for Joss' widow ($422k in current dollars).
