Your first concert: The Kingston Trio, The Orpheum Portland, Oregon, winter 1961.
I was 12. Got to meet the group backstage.
Your best concert: The Ike and Tina Turner Review, Redwood City, summer 1971.
Those dancers were incredible.
But dancing on stage with Grace Slick and The Jefferson Airplane in Portland’s Memorial Coliseum,
fall of 1968, certainly was a career highlight.
Worst concerrt: Diana Krall, Minneapolis, MN, fall 2015, I walked out.
She was flat; I wondered if she and Elvis Costello were struggling.
Concert you wish you’d attended: The Killers, Royal Albert Hall, London, England, 2009.
My favorite group and venue,
Band you’ve seen the most: Tina Turner, also with or without Ike.
Met her backstage on her stop in Minneapolis, 1998; still have her drummer’s drum sticks.
(A reminder that my friend Ty Votaw has seen Bruce Springsteen 69 times.)
Last concert: Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. Hayden Homes Amphitheater, Bend, Oregon, summer 2023
