How do you think it will affect recruiting, esp. after those two big gets?
Nah, I had no idea--I am nothing more than a fan who follows the team closely.
But holy mackerel. Pretty stunned. Don't know how old she is, but I think late 60s? So it's a totally reasonable choice for where she is. She has nothing left to prove, of course. But she's always been there, so even if it's reasonable, it's still shocking, and it leaves a void.
I don't know how much it affects recruiting because Stanford is so much more important than the coaching itself, but Lele is obviously a legend. Having Frankie as the interim head coach--since he's been there since '97--when his dad was the head women's coach for 20 years himself certainly helps with continuity, though.
It's the gold standard program, so I guess I can understand not immediately naming a replacement and wanting to take some time to see who emerges. But on the other hand, Frankie is an incredibly respected assistant, and he's been on the job 27 years! How can you pass over the guy? I wonder if he'll get the interim tag taken off at some point in the future to allow this moment to be fully about Lele, and then he can have his own moment down the road.
Agreed on Frankie although it's worth noting that this situation is almost identical to Whit being promoted to replace Dick and Whit's tenure was an unmitigated disaster.
