FWIW I was just in downtown SF & Union Square today.
It was a gorgeous day with lots of people out and about, though maybe half as many people as there were before Covid.
The sidewalks were clean, no tents, very few homeless.
Tourists were lined up halfway down the block to get on the cable cars at the Powell St. turnaround.
The Tenderloin is still the Tenderloin, but downtown SF and Union Square are nothing like what's portrayed in the media, which makes this attack feel out of place and shocking.
