Well, I saw Carnifex at the El Corazon theater (referred to by the Maps app as a "dive bar") last night, which brings my total number of concerts up to two. Yeah, I'm boring, I know.
The other one was the U2 Elevation Tour in Anaheim in 2001. I would say that one was better. Carnifex was fronted by four lead-up acts, Heavy//Hitter, Organectomy, Mental Cruelty and Cryptopsy. I was hoping that World War X would be part of the repertoire but Carnifex never played it. Cads. I did get a nice Necromanteum T-shirt out of the deal.
It's funny, about twelve years ago there was a thread on the other site's CEB about how new music all sounded the same and was too loud. Well, the 40 or so songs played by above five aforementioned bands might as well have been the same song (except possibly "Hell Chose Me") and as for loud, well, my ears were paying me back for that show all day today. And yet I'm perfectly comfortable with heavy metal. What was implied but never outright stated back then, I now realize, is that the new music of that day had a whiny quality. And that's what really rubbed us the wrong way.
