Curious to see Houghton playing in the ITF last week — she lost in the first round of singles, BUT she swept her way to the title in doubles playing alongside Erin Cayetano. 

Curious that she’s not playing the fall tournaments and playing pro instead.

I assume she's got one foot out the door, which makes perfect sense for a 5th year. Do I have a chance at a pro career? What does it look like? How do I stack up? Stuff like that, I'm guessing. 

One nice thing that the NCAA and ITA have done in recent years is be more flexible about NCAA tennis players playing low-level pro tournaments in the fall or on idle weekends in the spring, so college players can get a taste of tour life and compare themselves against pros. 

Pretty clear that she doesn't have much of a future pro career in singles, but maybe she can carve out something as a doubles specialist? We haven't seen it so far at Stanford, really, but why not give it a shot? Also, I am in favor of Stanford getting better at doubles, since it is often a relative weakness for us, so good for her!

Wish I knew why Hui withdrew from Regionals, though. (And why she didn't participate in All-Americans, either.) Not a single fall match.... She played one tournament that I could find in the summer, a $75K ITF tournament in Lexington, KY where she got smoked in the first round of qualifying, but that's it. Could be that she legitimately planned on playing Regionals, felt a minor tweak and figured it wasn't worth risking it--which is totally fine, the fall season isn't the main thing, so preserving your health for the spring is absolutely the priority. It's just the not knowing that bugs me....
