A successful AD can also curry favor with boosters and rack up the donations, but I don't see a lot of new donors being cultivated in that way right now (hope I'm wrong). Money tends to follow wins.
looking at the last two AD annual reports they show
2022-23 $14.2m in Buck/Cardinal gifts ($9.8m) + expendable gifts ($4.4m)
2023-23 $20.1m in Expendable Gifts including Buck/Cardinal Club 14% - I'm assuming 14% of total revenue of $143.7
I for one am surprised at the almost 50% Y/Y increase and wonder if there is either some funny accounting, new definitions of what's in these buckets and/or large one-time gifts in 2023-24
