1. They weren’t going to win the Super Bowl with the group they had
2. Dumping guys that weren’t going to help them achieve that goal puts them on track to immediately develop a team that can win a championship.
3. The decks are now clear to, once again, start the quest for #6. 

The way the NFL is structured, teams have a window to win it all.  Once the window starts closing, the best teams quickly pivot to creating a new window.  The crappy ones keep trying to prop the window open.
