I don't know guys, as a teenager the last thing I wanted to be confronted with is a decision that will last forty years. That's two lifetimes. Now that it is only 2/3 of a lifetime, it is still too long. And I say that as someone who is about to pay off a mortgage (the fourth? refinance) after 35 years with the same APN. That's as close as I've ever come to to a forty year decision (besides Mrs. Jacketree), and I could get out from under that. (The APN, not you Mrs. J.) Emphasize what my next two to four years are going to be like on the field and off. To be fair, I don't know what the pitch is; hopefully not: 'yeah the next couple of years are no fun, but trust me, the mid-career payoff when sports don't pan out! I mean trust me on that.'
Alternatively: The pitch, however core to recruitment, clearly isn't working lately; try something else. (Read that as 'pay the scale.') That stud ILB isn't making some monumental mistake going to UCLA or Ohio State. The monumental mistake would be to go to UCLA or Ohio State and think you don't have to work hard outside your sport.
