My memory of Steve Spurrier is that he spent nine years of a ten-year NFL career backing up local favorite, Stanford alum and NFL MVP John Brodie. Spurrier went 6-2-1 as a starter in 1972, his career highlight. His overall NFL record other than 1972 as a starter was 7-30-1

Spurrier threw ducks that were so wounded, he made Cordova's arm look like John Elway's. If you're around here for a while, you'll understand the reference.

Here's Spurrier's NFL "highlight" film. You can almost feel the 49er receivers' collective impatience at waiting for the football to arrive.
