Here's the problem. In the last two games unrated Boise State had 20 hits against Stanford. The Cardinal doesn't have the pitching staff to be competitive on a consistent basis against top teams (Yes, they did beat Texas early in the season).
The wins against Boise State are enjoyable. It tends to obscure the fact Stanford has lost the last five of six conference games.
It’s been about what we expected preseason. Hitting has been I think even better than we hoped. Pitching has been a struggle much of the time as expected. The Texas game was great, but some combination of an on day pitching and an off day hitting - well anything can happen in a single game, hence your consistently comment is dead on. I don’t think the fans over-read that one game too much, and that we are very surprised now. That said giving up 13 runs to Boise at isn’t great even by those standards.
