I don't think he was holding back a 12-0 team or anything, but I do think he cost them some or all of the TCU, SJSU, WF, and Cal games -- I suspect a better coach could have won 2 or 3 of those games.
I feel the same way. With an NFL coach, new attitude and rigor, new players, the assistants learn along the way...six wins. Maybe seven. Hawaii, Virginia, SJSU, FSU, Pitt. That's five, and one of: Cal, UNC, Notre Dame.
