Ouch, or not. At a certain point one would hope your populace has better things to do than anchor their weekend around a game. I'd venture to say the Bay Area far surpasses Texas (if not the entire south) in medicines developed, technologies invented, and productivity enhanced. I happen to be someone who loves that AND loves college sports, but I would definitely not trade cultures for the world.

I admit that I know next to nothing about Lubbock other than Texas Tech is there. So, on football game day, what is that event competing against for the attention/attendance/dollars of its citizenry? 

Are there big concerts taking place? Theater plays? NFL, NHL or NBA games? High profile conventions? Are vineyard tours available (there are some local vineyards)? National parks? 

Maybe there are, but I doubt locals have the options that Bay Area locals have. Also, how many locals are alums of the respective schools? 

If the football game is the only option other than hanging out at Buddy Holly museum, than it's logical that the stadium will be full.

Yes, and thus why I don't live in Lubbock. If the future of college sports is a bunch of moguls buying players to populate their local college teams in their fourth tier cities, have at it. That's not a competition I have any interest in winning.

Lubbock not my favorite place but it’s full of good people.  Weather not as good as at Stanford but sports are generally better and more enjoyable. I assure you, the folks in Lubbock  hold the same high regard for Nor Cal and for your values as you hold for their community and their values.

My values are equitable, merit-based, and homegrown. I look forward to hearing what Lubbock's are.
