It hurts to know that, in this case, Stanford can attract and recruit a transcendental, championship athlete but not be able to retain her because of money. It's as close to a "pay her and win a championship; she's going to win one wherever she is next season" hypothetical as we'll probably ever see. I wonder what the softball boosters/insiders feel. I certainly didn't have the money or the donor history with softball to move their needle.
