Quite possibly true. However the decision regarding how TT spends its money doesn't rest with Canady. It rests with the staff that doles out the offers. Roster management isn't the player's problem. We also don't know what the roster compensation limits were. There could have been more money available for the "right player" to compliment Canady.

Independent of all that, TT didn't need to win as many games as it did during the season. Once the coach knew what he had (and didn't have) he should have put more effort into keeping Canady "fresh". That would also give the other pitchers the opportunity to develop as much as possible. 54 wins looks nice, but 48 (or even fewer) might have led to a better result in the end.
