Hundreds of millions is a big number, no matter what the first number is. How will this affect athletics?

I don’t know that it has been announced, but in other threads I have mused that the athletic department would be a target for cuts.  At a minimum, I would expect that the AD would be asked to shoulder some burden as well, but it is possible that the AD, which is not core to the academic mission of the university, would be asked to shoulder a disproportionate share of the cuts.  My guess is that the department will try to reduce some of the athletic department staff rather than push the burden onto athletes, but there may come a point where Stanford will re-examine how many sports it sponsors.
