Yeah, sadly I think the increase in number of athletes transfers is entirely accounted for through increased admission of transfer athletes through the portal.

I was one of those aforementioned transfers from a community college, and my year (admit spring 2003), we had a roughly 90 strong transfer class. It's telling they said about 1/3 came from community colleges, which seems even higher than the percentage in my class. 

Having watched this number closely for many years, it's so variable an unfortunately the dependant variable is frosh yield. As paloalto noted, when we kill it at admit weekend we have historically decimated the transfer admissions numbers.

That said, I'm sure Athletics is *a* causal factor, but I'm just flagging this is not unprecedented, all time.
