Alright - time for a check-in to what's going on at regionals. A mixed bag of results for Stanford thus far - with only two players left alive in Singles as I begin writing this (Driscoll lost by the time I finished writing). First, Valerie Glozman withdrew as she had no reason to play regionals as she's already qualified for fall nationals. First, we'll take a look at the singles results so far:

It's a mixed bag here.
Let's start with Ekstrand who was seeded fourth. It's hard coming into a regional like this on Cal's home courts - but really, given that Naomi Xu played #6 for Cal last season, this should've been a winnable match. It appears that Xu for Cal is much improved this season, given that she just knocked off Washington's #1 Matsuda in the quarters in dominating fashion. As to Emma Sun - it's good to see her come through qualifying and be seemingly healthy - that said - she lost to Sophie Hernandez who memorably clinched for Cal in the Big Slam last year against Shaffer despite not playing in most of Cal's duals last year.
It's hard to read into Myoung and Wang's results here. Myoung won what she was supposed to, and then lost her match to Washington's Matsuda who was the #6 seed. The same could be said for Wang - but I'd really liked to have seen Wang beat Jacobs. That said, Jacobs is currently battling it out in a third set with the top seed, Mushika (Cal). Those two results though, give me hope that we have a solid top 6 that can compete against most teams.
It's been a disappointing start to the season for Driscoll. She somehow ended up with the #2 seed here, but lost to Cal's #4 from last year Berta Passola Folch. Again, coming against Cal on their home court it's a tough match - but these are absolutely the kind of matches that we want to see Driscoll win. For Cal, they're looking strong with Mao Mushika continuing to lead the way - at this juncture - there's a chance that it's three Golden Bears versus Ahn for the title.
Alyssa Ahn has done what is expected of her - she's come through the draw relatively unscathed despite an early scare. She beat Washington's #2 Reece Carter in dominant fashion, and now has the chance to avenge Driscoll in the semifinals against Passola Folch.
Let's talk doubles....
Emma Sun and Moragn Shaffer teamed up to win a round before running into Irene Riva/Lou Baudouin of Sacramento State. They dropped that match 8-2 - but Sacramento State dispatched the top seeds from Washington in the next round.
Glozman and Ekstrand have advanced as expected - and have a tough quarterfinal against Cal's Mushika and Greco Iucchina tomorrow.
Driscoll and Ahn play Washington's #2 pair in the quarters - we'll see how they do.
Myoung and Wang beat a pair from Gonzaga and Fresno State before falling to Washington's #3 pair of Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif in a tiebreaker.
