Not that this is a new issue, but by the end of the regular season Miami will have 4 away games--only one will be outside the Eastern time zone (SMU so one hour earlier). Stanford has 6 away games and not a single one will be played in the Pacific time zone.
Yes, it's not fair. But we didn't want to be an independent, and we didn't want to join a conference with too many schools ending in "State." So we signed up for the ridiculous, mind-numbing, jaw-dropping, bad-for-athletes travel.
All true, but I really wasn't angling for the "not fair" claim. I was implying that Stanford should schedule nonconference games more like Miami. Other than Notre Dame, only schedule teams in the Pacific time zone, ideally with a 2-home-1-away arrangement. We would only need two or three non-P4 schools from Wazzu down to SDSU who would go for it. If that doesn't work then schedule a home game vs. an FCS opponent every year. Mimimum 7 home games every season.
The future of Notre Dame's annual games with Stanford and USC still has not been announced. Currently, Stanford has not P4 games on its schedule 2026, 2028, 2029, and 2030. In years Stanford does not play ND, it will be scrambling to meet the requirement of at least one P4 non-conference game.
