I think the undergrad experience is important, but it's not a deciding factor.  As an alum, watching games with the local alumni club in the fall, traveling to bowl games, and organizing game watch parties are all part of my life even though the win-loss record was terrible during my years and even though I didn't go to many games during my undergrad years.  I will say that the Gerhart/Luck/McCaffrey/Love era really solidified Stanford Football's position in my life.  Perhaps I'm an outlier.
