My impression is that Garrett turned us down due to lack of confidence on NILs and other financial support for the football program.  That calculation may change with what Andrew has done and will do.   I like Garrett because he would attract recruits and he has a personal taste for Stanford. 

Stanford is a good retirement job (Walsh II) or a springboard job (Harbaugh)11.3

Except Walsh quickly discovered that being a college coach at Stanford made too many demands on him. It was "hard". He didn't want to do that. I am guessing that in the days of NIL and cross-country conferences it is even worse. It is not a "retirement" job at all, especially given Stanford's current problems.
