If Kingsbury would be willing to take the job I'd be 1000% in support of him, but I'd assume he's angling for another NFL shot. So I'm going to give my tiers.

TIER 1

• Jim Leonhard: Has only produced results with defenses. High-energy style would seem to translate to effective recruiting. Doesn't have a direct connection to Stanford but does have extensive connections to current defensive staff. But he hasn't been mentioned anywhere as an option.
  
• Kliff Kingsbury: Sure seems like a great offensive mind. Has CFB and NFL coaching experience. Personality a little aloof. Would he take the job? If he does, would seem like a sure thing to bolt to NFL as soon as an offer comes in.
  

TIER 2

• Greg Roman: Obvious understanding of the program, very clear offensive identity that is sorely needed. Not an exciting hire but would seem to have a very high floor, with a pretty high ceiling too. Despite being mentioned in a number of coaching searches, has never gotten the job. At this point, he might be happy in the role and not be looking to bolt.
  

TIER 3

• Frank Reich: Seemed to do a pretty good job. Getting over the 3-9 hump, especially with the personnel depletions, means a lot.
  

TIER 4

• Tavita Prichard: Despite his face and name all over the place (in relation to the program), we really know nothing about his coaching ability. He was an OC with a HC play caller. He's a QB coach of a transcendent talent but under Kingsbury, who's coached many QBs to success. I have zero actual knocks on him, we just know basically nothing about him despite his years in the program.
  
• Jason Garrett: I actually really like Jason Garrett. Not an exciting hire at all but he was actually pretty OK in Dallas, all things considering. I shot his wire on a game day and came away liking him a lot more than expected.
  

TIER 5

• Pep Hamilton: Often mentioned for this job. Must be a great guy because the results just aren't there. Lost play calling duties to Roman at Stanford and has been pretty underwhelming at every stop. 3 years with the Colts was his longest stop anywhere. The major caveat to his production is that if he's a guy who people keep bringing around, he must be a positive person. If he'd be willing to be a CEO coach instead of a play caller, he might be a tremendous fit. But if it's a Peter Principle issue, that could be a major problem.
  

WILD CARDS

• Jeff Monken: Results at Army are impressive. But a transition from a military school to the NIL landscape is unique.
  
• Jon Gruden: People have talked about it. Can't imagine Stanford would let someone with those emails onto campus. High-energy, but does he seem like a fit? Could be a jackpot hire, could be disastrous.
  

Other names exist, but these are the ones I'm noting today. I would be happy with anyone through Tier 4. I could be talked into Pep Hamilton IF he isn't the play caller.
